Syracuse is a wonder, an enchantment flood. It is necessary to visit the old ruins, they are worth. But Syracuse is, mainly, its old city, in a peninsula surrounded by the sea, with old and baroque rest that will transport you in another time.
Syracuse is a great Greek and Roman archaeological center. Its neuralgic point is called Napoli, that counts on exceptional pieces like the Greek Theater of Democopos with 132 meters of diameter, the Roman Amphitheatre of century III, the Latomia of the Paradiso with an artificial grotto of great well-known acoustics as the "Ear of Dionisos" and the Necrópolis Grotticelli with Greek tombs of century V and IV b.JC.
The most modern part of the city is located in the Island of Ortigia, that although also conserves archaeological rest emphasized by medieval buildings like the Palaces of the Archbishopric and the Senate, the Church of Santa Lucia alla Badia, the Castello Maniace and the Bellomo Palace, seat of the Regional Gallery. The Duomo was constructed on an old Greek temple.
